Device not ready error

--------------

I have a Gateway 386-20 bought last year about this time, and I have a small
problem.

At times when accessing the hard drive partition C: or D: I get a "Device not
Ready" error with an "abort retry cancel" message.

At this point I can tell it to retry, and it will work just fine.

This has happened only twice while running windows programs, but will almost
always will happen when I go to a Dos program, especially jumping to
command.com (dos 3.3).

Trying to compile a program, or unzip a file will bring about 3 or 4 of these
errors in 20 or so file accesses. Nauseating.

I have never seen this error in any other program. Only in Windows...
