ATI 256-color drivers

I thought I'd clear up some confusion about the ATI 256-color
drivers. As far as I know, the problem that occurs with the
ATI drivers in 256-color modes (640x480 and 800x600) ONLY
manifests itself on boards with the earlier BIOS chips
(V3 and maybe V4). The newer boards do not have this problem,
namely a splitting of the screen and a flicker in response to
some unknown operation (perhaps when the mouse cursor is near
the top of the screen).

So those who claim that the ATI drivers work fine on their machines
probably have a newer board installed.

IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A DRIVER RELEASE NEWER THAN THE ONE ON CICA (dated
11-5-90) PLEASE LET ME KNOW OR POST IT TO CICA.

THANKS.
