Sorry for posting such a question in ***.programmer group, but I do believe you professional programmers know this better than others. 1. I own a 386SX-25 with 2MB RAM on the mainboard. Are they mapped as 0K to 2048K (&H00000-&H1FFFFF)? 2. If they are, the memory between 640K to 1024K (&H0A000-&H10000) seems overlapped with those 'reserved area' which has been asigned to be used as video memory (for VGA it's &H0A000-&H0BFFFF) and ROM/buffer on peripheral boards, i.e, the RAM on the mainboard and peripheral boards share the same address between 640-1024K. Am I right? 3. If I am right, the question is whether or not Windows/DOS can access the memory on the mainboard at the address which has been occupied by, say, VGA card and video memory, etc.? 4. If Windows/DOS CAN access, the problem is that, the physical memory at the address to be visited, say, H&A000, is video memory or the memory on the mainboard? How could Windows/Dos tell? 5. If Window/Dos can NOT access, then why we spend our money on the useless 640K-1024K? BTW, when we use LOADHIGH command to put some of drivers to the upper memory, where are they located? Please e-mail me if you can help Thanx in advance szhang@bcm.tmc.edu
