Subject: ***DYING*** : PCNFS 4.0/eXceedw 3.1.1/Windows 3.1
I am running the following combination on an MJN 486SX25 with 8Mb memory and
a Paradise PVGA1D video card in 1024x768x256 mode (no, I can't run with less
colours or lower resolution, - we do computer vision with 8-bit images).:
DOS 5.0
Windows 3.1
Microsoft Mouse / driver 8.02
QEMM 6
MKS Toolkit 3.2 (init out of config.sys, no autoexec)
Nat. Sem. Ethernet Card + NDIS drivers
PCNFS 4.0
eXceedw 3.1.1 X server (windows version only)
Backmenu 2.34 (registered version)
Almanac 3.0a (registered version)
Winpost 3.2 (registered version)
What happens is, I bring up a few xterms running on remote Suns and everything
seems OK for a while. Then I'll move the mouse somewhere after a few minutes
and I'll get a dialog with "C RUNTIME ERROR" in it, and one of my windows apps
will die. More may die if I select them or move the mouse.
I have tried using updated 3.1 video drivers which was the fix suggested by
Hummingbird (the eXceedw manufacturers), but to no avail. The video card
has a WD90C30-LR chip in it from Western Digital, (- they have some even
newer video drivers out but not at my resolution requirements).
It isn't qemm, I get the same problems with himem / emm386. Qemm is needed
to get me more than about 290k free in DOS.....
I've included my important configuration files in the hope that someone out
there can help ...... (If anyone would like an msd.exe output report as well
I can mail one, but it'd be too long for the newsgroup).
Please reply by email *TO MY AIVRU ADDRESS* (which I read every day),
I'll summarise if enough interest.
Many thanks in advance.
Derek Jones.
