(NOTE: there is no such group as "comp.windows.x.openlook". There is a
group "comp.windows.open-look"; "x" is left out because there exist
implementations of the OPEN LOOK look&feel for window systems other than
X, e.g. NeWS. Those implementations may not be around in 5 years, even
if the X implementation is around in 5 years, but they're there now....)

Sounds like he has some "run-time subset" of OW 3.0. One machine here -
an IPX with 4.1.3 pre-installed - doesn't have "libX11.a" in
"/usr/openwin/lib". Another machine here - a diskless *LC (either ELC
or SLC) with 4.1.2 and OW 3.0 from a server - has "libX11.a" in
"/usr/openwin/lib".

He might want to go back and check whether there's some "programmer's
subset" that didn't get installed; if so, it probably includes not only
the non-shared "libX11.a", but also all the relevant header files in
"/usr/openwin/include/X11" and so on.

Now, as you note:

>You should not need the /usr/local/lib/X11/libX11.a. Just modify your SUIT's makefile or Imakefile to add "-L/usr/openwin/lib -lX11" onto

I.e., not all "-lfoo" libraries in SunOS have the name "libfoo.a"; some
have names like "libfoo.so.1.0" and "libfoo.sa.1.0". Unlike the ".a"
libraries, the ".so" libraries (although not the ".sa" libraries) must
be around, even on machines on which no development is being done, to
run applications linked with them; they're the shared library files.
