After installing the 05 02 2000 rpms I get this werid error when I try
to 'startkde' This is a fairly similer problem to the one I have when I
try to compile from the cvsup but that usually says something like error
in Q libary. I've done everything I can think of, I even tried removing
kde 1.2. If anyone has any ideas please help.

How to install kde2 (rpm or tar) file under Mandrake 7.0

Hi, All -

I have tried to install kde2 alpha 0205 and 0213 binary without success.

The installation process (using gnom\rpm or rpm -i command) went fine. But
when I try to start kde2, mandrak 7 always defaults back to kde 1.12.

My mandrake installation using auto start X so i boot into the default
KDE XDM. from the boot menu I can choose different window managers.

My questions are :

Do I have to un-install kde 1.12 ?

What are the files (.Xdefault ? .xinit ? ) mandrake use to define the
window manager selections

Where are these files located (root ? user home ? etc ? X11 ?)

My throughts are to find the configuration files so I can edit them and
replace the startkde script from kde1.1.2 to kde2. Thus I may be able to
select the kde window manager from the login manager screen and boot into
kde2.

Or, is there a way to manualy start kde2 ? if so how do I remove the
Xwindow auto start and start kde2 manually.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, if anyone can tell me hwen are the man pages or documents regarding
login manager configuration, XDM, or Xstartup would aslo be very kind.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have an answer for you, but generally running internet programs like
irc etc are not a good idea if you are logged in as root (as it appears you
are by your sender name).
