Howdy, our group is considering the purchase of several laptops for home and travel use. We are looking at models in the in the US$2,500 to 3,500 range, such as the NEC Versa 2000C and some of the TI Extensas. Basic characteristics: active matrix display, 500+ Mb hard disk, 486 DX4 75+ MHz, 16Mb RAM. We want to run X windows on them, and use them to connect to our UNIX systems via external (probably) ISDN modems. Aside from the pitifully small screen, are there any counterindications to using these machines as X terminals? Has anybody tried? When refreshing an xterm window, will it have enough power to sustain the 56 or 112 Kbit/s data rate on its serial port, and update the screen? I am sure the processor is plenty fast, but I am wondering about the serial interface and video accelerator. Thanks a lot ---Luigi
