After some experimenting with the installation of X11 libs under SunOS4.0
we came to the following conclusion:

	IF

	- you want the compiler to find X11 libs in a default place and
	- you want the runtime linker to find them (without ldconfig'ing)
	- you want to link suid programs with shared libs
	- you DON'T want to clutter up /usr/lib with those libs

	THEN

	- use /usr/local/lib to create a bunch of symbolic links to
	  whereever you keep the libraries.

/usr/local/lib is a "trusted" directory, although not mentioned in Sun's
documentation.
