X11 has to mess around with the console, to get graphics and such,
and this can only be done as root.
This is solved by making the X server suid to root
(mode 4711, owner root).

The X server may be found by making a 'which X' (possibly as root),
this file is however, usually only a symlink to the particular
X server you are using - which have to be suid.
