I understand that there are a couple of commercial X-Servers out there which support the Matrox Millenium. Which should I go for? The commercial release of Red-Hat Linux comes with MetroX, this supposedly supports the Millenium? This could be a cheap option. I would like to hear of any good or bad experiences that people have had with X-servers and their Milleniums (or from people who use any Millenium-supporting servers but don't have milleniums) PS anyone know where I can get this stuff in Australia (preferably a shop I can walk into in Melbourne) Scott please CC me an email reply to followup posts

If the Matrox came with your machine then it is most likely an OEM card. The OEM Matrox cards have slower RAMDACs than the retail versions, so that *may* have been the problem... Anyways, I was using Metro-X with a Millenium w/4M & it works great, however friends (who have tried MetroX & X-Inside) have told me that X-Inside is *MUCH* better than MetroX. -- _/_/_/_/ _/ _/_/_/_/ _/ _/ _/ tljones1@eos.ncsu.edu _/ _/ _/ _/ NCSU - Department of Computer Science _/ _/_/_/_/ _/_/_/ http://china.rh.ncsu.edu/~tavaris

Installation was very easy, much easier than XFree. However, its costs about $100 US plus shipping. I ordered it directly from the US company that produces it, X Inside. To my knowledge there is no shop in Australia that sells the commercial X servers. If you want to walk into a shop and buy an X server than you should probably get Red Hat 3.0.3 wit Metro-X I've had no problems with Accelerated-X and they have reponded promptly to all my email questions. Michael Aquilina Disclaimer: These are my opinions, not that of my employer. P.S. I live in Melbourne, not Sweden as the email address indicates.

And as X-server I have the commercial Accelerated-X server. It works realy good. = The X-server was realy easy (a kid could almost do it if you compare to the= XFree86 version) to install. And to get a realy good resolution was no prob= lem. Right now I'm running 1600*1200 with 65k colors with 72Hz refresh rate (thi= s on a 21" EIZO FlexScan F784-T monitor) Like Michael I also order it directly from the states. = And when I order the X-server I also order MWM and MWM-development pack. So= that I can program OpenGL and other fun stuff that this card supports.
