Please help with this problem: We just upgraded from ODT-2.0 to ODT-3.0. After this upgrade we have a problem with external Xterminals. These Xterminals consists of PC's running PC-Xware. Before we upgraded we could use the local (on the PC) Window Manager (Either NCD's wm or MS wm). After XDM connect to the SCO ODT computer and login via the SCO LOGIN window the normal scosession was run and the normal DeskTop would come up. The only special that had to be made was to start the local wm via rcmd from /usr/lib/X11/scologin/Xstartup. This looked like this: /usr/lib/X11/scologin/Xstartup (ODT-2.0): #!/bin/sh # File: /usr/lib/X11/scologin/Xstartup # # Changed: # Tue Dec 21 20:48:40 MEZ 1993 eks # # Xstartup # # This program is run as root after the user is verified # # Calculate pc = the hostname of the actual PC in question. pc=empty pc=`echo $DISPLAY | sed 's/:.*$//'` if [ $pc ]; then rcmd $pc wm > /dev/null; fi Now with ODT-3.0 this won't work at all. The only thing that happens after login via the SCO Login window is the SCO timeglass appears on the PC screen for 1/2 seccond and the the scosession is terminated. Here is what scosession writes out, if the local WindowManager is running on the Xterminal: 659 (slam:/usr/eks) eks $ scosession scosession: another (window) manager is already running. 660 (slam:/usr/eks) eks $ What can be the reason for that and what can I do to solve it ? How can I start my normal DeskTop without starting mwm ? Any help and hints are wellcome ! To get this to work try doing the following. Create a shell script which
starts the Window Manager on the X terminal. Then add the follow to your
~/.Xdefaults file:
ScoSession*windowManager: ncdwm
where ncdwm is the name of the shell script. You might have to merge this
into your resources with the command:
xrdb -m ~/.Xdefaults
This will start the window manager for you when you login. I also start
the ncdlauncher from this script so that I can customize the root window
menus.
A side effect of not using mwm is that the SCO session manager also saves
the state of running applications and attempts to restart them the next time
you login. With NCD X terminals I have found that an entry for the window
manager created. The next time you login an error occurs.
These entries are placed in the file ~/.odtpref/ScoSession/dynamic. The
entry for the NCD window manager looks like the following:
unknown "wm"
{
_geometry 101x28+-526+-436
_state normal
}
To fix this I modified the /usr/lib/X11/sco/ScoSession/shutdown file to
remove the entry for the window manager. This script is run when scosession
is run with the stop option (ie. when logging out).
Hope this helps
Andrew
