IP Addresses

We had a go at changing our IP addresses over to the new range yesterday but
hit a few problems I hope you can help me with.
WE did the following
1. Changed the IP address of the server to and gave it the subnet mask
2. We reduced the lease time for the DHCP range of addresses to 15 minutes
and rebooted.
2. WE then tried to change the DHCP scope to the new range of address
however
we could not save it. Also we unable to edit the subnet mask for the scope.
( We think one of the problems here was the fact that the current range
covers 252 addresses while we were reducing the number to 32 with the new
addresses ( NT4 with service pack 4))
3. We next created a new scope with the above range and the subnet mask. We
activated this scope , deactivated the original scope and rebooted
4. We then went to one client on the network and ran
ipconfig /release which went OK but on running ipconfig /renew it timed out
failing to contact the DHCP server. WE checked the DHCP server and it was up
and running. Rebooting the client did not help.
5. Presumably as a result of the IP change on the server our internal local
mail and intranet went down. We changed the setting on our mail server to
reflect the new IP address and did likewise with the client account settings
for mail to no avail.
6. Finally we reverted back, resetting the server IP address to the
original, reversing the mail server settings, and reverting to the original
scope and rebooting. The client that couldn't contact the DHCP server was
fine on reboot.

So the end result is everything is up and running but we have not switched
over to the new addresses. Sorry to bore you with the details but I'm hoping
you can give a few pointers to what we are doing wrong.

I"ve done alot of searching on the net and can get lots of stuff
regarding setting up DHCP servers and creating scopes but little on changing
the range of IP addresses within a scope

Any help appreciated

Sorry, but your question is unanswerable here.

You see, comp.windows.x is dedicated to the discussion of the X network
protocol, and the graphical windowing environments that use it. This forum
has nothing to do with DHCP services on Microsoft Windows.

Your question doesn't have anything to do with X, and instead probably
should be asked in comp.protocols.tcpip or in one comp.os.ms-windows.*
newsgroups.

Sorry.

comp.windows.x might have been relevant had you mentioned XDMCP,
or changing the IP address of an X terminal or PC running X. :-)
I can't speak for the other newsgroups.

But good luck; this looks like a weird problem.
