We are considering the installation of a small lab of VXT2000 Xterminals with an infoserver. The performance and specs of the system look similar to recent NCD systems, the generally accepted standard around here. If anybody has some experiences with these systems, I would really appreciate knowing some of your experiences -- good and bad. We don't want to do this if staff time gets eaten up at some great rate. 1) How would you rate the VXT2000 performance? 2) Our host environment is SGI Irix, Sun OS, and a little VMS. How well do VXT2000s work with the non-DEC systems? (any ugly font issues?) 3) How well does the 4mb terminal work with the paging provided by the infoserver. Our intended audience is undergrad, so the systems will be 'stressed' but there is no heavy research or visualization stuff planned. 4) Does the infoserver provide any management benefits? Security benefits? 5) What kind of disk space is required for 16 or so terminals? 6) Do color systems require more memory than mono systems? If there is enouygh direct response, I will summ and post.
