21 major and thousands of minor fragments of Comit Shoemaker-Levi 9 will hit Jupiter's atmosphere at 130,000 mph during a 6 day period starting July 9, 1994. Each fragment will be torn apart by friction, producing fireballs as hot as the sun's surface. The comits will impact Jupiter on the side away from us, however the impact sites will rotate into view 10 minutes after each collision. If you want to see this spectacle you need a telescope of at least 120 power. Look for Jupiter in the southwestern sky just after 11 pm. Anyone want to have a Jupiter party ? -Dean
