The smoking ban. Anyone care to debat e it here? I don't know about this smoking ban, but what about banning any news article with lines longer than 72 characters? I've rewrapped it above so it looks like it does on my screen, and should have simply cut it off at the "wo" like some other newsreaders would have. And what about the trees? If you force people to smoke outside by banning smoking in bars, you will be making the trees breathe second hand smoke. Do you think just because you can't hear the trees they aren't crying? Gaia weeps for the sick; her tears flow as the rain. Why do you think it is so wet here in Corvallis? It isn't just because the Beavers had a losing football season, although statistical trends show that to be the main cause. 40% football. 30% basketball. 20% sick trees. 10% dead cows from Tillamook being washed out to sea to show up on Tokyo beaches. Oh, the humanity. Ummm, I mean the cowmanity. (Competition for the Kobe beef, I say.) What about the wood cancer the second hand smoke will cause? Do you want YOUR next house built with cancerous wood? Do you want to be picking YOUR teeth with maple carcinomas? Do you put your feet up on the furniture at home, too? And 9 MILLION dollars to put new banks on a river that will just flood in a year and wash them all away? And how many dollars to rebuild a swimming pool that should have been paid for with user fees? I know, let the kiddies swim in the river. Put them in south of town at the boat ramp, pull them out at Michael's landing. Much healthier to swim in cold water. Look at how long all them Finns live and they jump from sweat boxes right into the fiords. And it will be more exercise, trying to swim up river. Heh, it will even teach the youngsters about how hard it is to make a living as a salmon. That way they'll appreciate it even more when they don't get fed Salmon Surprise Loaf in their school lunches, if not getting Salmon Surprise Loaf wasn't enough reason to be appreciative all by itself. Of course if they do manage to swim upriver, we don't want them spawning. The kids, that is. And you can pay for riverbank improvements by selling tickets to watch the swimming. That way, local citizens can come root for their favorite kiddy, or for the undertow if they want to. I'm betting on the middle pylon of the bridge. And I don't know about you, but MY health won't improve by adding a 35 mil tax to pay for "health and safety." It will make my blood pressure go up, that's what it will do. I say, let my 35 automatic provide my safety, let me keep the 35 mils. Well, ok, it's really a 45, but I got it on sale, and 35 makes it alliterative. I could have bought three 9 mil, but that's only 27. Let the games begin.
