> The smoking ban. Anyone care to debate it here? I like Linda Modrell's stance on things. Here's what her web page (http://www.peak.org/~modrelll/platform.html) says: Smoking Ban in Corvallis Bars: (accountability) ----------------------------------------------- Working in health policy, I am acutely aware of the effects of tobacco on our health and the costs of health. Tobacco use is a deadly habit. I do agree that vending machines that kids can access should be restricted. I also support the idea of segregating smokers and non-smokers and demanding air handling and ventilation systems. I think that works. There is something fundamentally contradictory in banning smoking in a place where another drug, alcohol, is consumed. I understand the second-hand smoke dangers. I also understand the "second-hand" effects of alcohol abuse: the health costs of traffic accidents, violence and crime; the social and mental health costs on individuals and their families. This feel like an inconsistency to me. Ben.
