>>> s a good idea to toss in a line or three
about "protecting the children." I have a feeling that someone might have even
tried to say about the smoking ban in bars that it is to "protect our
children." <<<

Someone did, actually. In Corvallis City Council testimony, a woman told of
how she grew up in a smoking household, and suffered terribly from it, and her
asthma, didn't clear up until she left home at age 18.

She then went on to say... that is why she supports the smoking ban in bars.

Now, I do feel for her. But that's quite a leap, if'n you were to ask me.
Quite a leap indeed. And no-one on the council questioned this line of
thinking.

What's more... no-one even discussed the next step... do we go into the home
and say it's illegal to smoke in front of your child in your own home?

Umm, hello?

Anyway, my final bitch for the evening is the rash of letters from Doctors and
people in the GT lately, talking about the "tobacco industry"... and how their
advertising will try to paint ban as evil, blah, blah, blah... well, I tell
you... I haven't seen any big moeny tobacco campaign in our town.

All I know is that in the voters pamplet, there's maybe 5 "opposition"
statements from doctors and "health advocates", only the one from the smoker's
right coalition. So, where's the money from "big tobacco" companies?

I did get a flyer in the mail today from the Citizens for a Healthy Workplace
PAC... and it's got a nice little photo on it of a woman carrying a child in a
safty seat. (She's quite slender and attractive, too!)

So who's using images to manipulate who?

Give me a break. The ammount of places that still allowed smoking, we can
count, whereas, the number of places where you can't smoke, goes on and on.

This smoking ban ordinace was/is stupid.
Let's at least undue some of it.
