Affirmative Action push at OSU

On Friday, Corvallis' GT ran an article about a proposal
in front of the faculty senate to require faculty search
committees to have minority members. Apparently
some people are not satisfied with OSU's success with hiring
minorities.

People quoted in support of the proposal accused the committees
of racism in both their hiring and search processes.

Is it just me, or is this proposal crazy? How many minorities
would there be per committee? What if a department has no
minorities to put on their committee? Can racism be charged
if a group with an Asian on the committee fails to hire a Latino?

I'll post more of the article, if anyone is interested.

David
