IME & that of other VW owners I've spoken to, by far and away the best VW
mechanic in the area is Karl Jaentsch. His place is a bit of a haul --
way up on Hayts Corners Rd., near the hospital -- and it's just him and (I
think) 1 assistant, so it sometimes takes a few days for him to fix your
car, but he does great work and his prices are always *very* reasonable.
He's also been great about explaining, honestly, if something needs to be
fixed reasonably soon but will probably hold out for another month or so,
or if a given noise is annoying but not really dangerous. I don't know
how badly backlogged he is at the moment, and I'm not sure if he does body
work, but if not, he may be able to recommend someone who does.

Other places I've had experience with, FWIW:

* Garage de France: They're the licensed VW dealer in the area, so again,
if they don't do body work themselves (and I suspect they may), they can
probably recommend someone who does. I haven't used them in several
years, and had some concerns back when I did about being overcharged
and/or having the same problems recur a few weeks later, but this *was*
several years ago, and last time this came up (a year or 2 ago, IIRC) on
this ng, I & several other people got calls from the manager, who seemed
interested in hearing about and correcting the problem.

* Junior's Auto Body: Took forever and a day for them to actually *fix*
the car after an accident 2 years ago, but the main problem seemed to be
that they didn't know or "do" VWs as far as what was under the hood --
their body work (and this was after the car was not-quite-but-almost
totaled) was excellent.
