Indded you (or at least I) can - I've just followed the following text on a
win2000 pro machine, and it works perfectly. I can't remember where I got it
from, and I think there must be some risk, but fwiw:

text starts:
SBLive! 5.12.01.3219 WDM drivers
Windows 2000 user all you need to do is run upddrv2k.exe then reboot
win it done install or go thur the Device Manager and update the
drivers if don't went LW3 install.

Win2k user here how to get the newer 5.1 LW3 applications to work on NoN 5.1
cards, but the CL Launcher will not work "HANG" so you need unistall LW3 you
have now this for thoses with the NoN 5.1 cards only.

1: Frist Close all LW3 apps frist then you remove from the Device Manager
under "Sound, video and games controllers"
"Creative SB Live! (WDM)" or "Creative SBLive! Value (WDM)" and the
"Game Port Creative SB Live!" rigth click uninstall.
2: Start | Control Panel | Add-Remove Programs look for "Sound Baster Live!"
or "Sound Baster Live! Value" uninstall everything yes drivers to.
3: Open Windows Explorer go to ?:\WINNT\inf click on the that folder then
click on Search type in Containing text box "SB Live" without quotes
then you see a few Oem[x].inf del them before you reboot & be sure to
empty Recycle Bin "DO NOT DEL wdma10k1.inf".
4: Del the folder Program Files\Creative
5: Reboot it should reinstall buildin drivers if not don't worry about.
6: Download the SBLive! 5.12.01.3219 WDM drivers unzip and run upddrv2k.exe
click yes to the not driver signing if it popup them wait a few min's before
reboot.
7: Download the SBLive! 5.1 Series LW Package for Win2k it should be
Date: 010417 17,648,261 bytes
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1SBL5-WEB-W1-US
Save any were you like, run SBL51_W2k.exe it will unpack it self in same
folder.
8: Open notepad add the line "sbl51 /w" without quotes save as run.batin
same folder where it unpack the the drivers & applications then dbl click
on run.bat and install be sure to Click NO to overwirte any drivers and
reboot.
A big thank gose to Christopher Hill for the command line switch.

Everything should now work other then you will not have CL Launcher on top
dran but I live hehe.
