I use the Creative 12.90s in both my WinMe and Win2k SP2 installations.
Win 2000 SP2 :
These are the changes I made to my system one day:
-- installed creative 12.90s
-- upgraded 815E(CUSL2) chipset driver to ver 2.90.009
-- set my memory to work in 3-2-2 mode (3-3-3 default)
The result was random explorer.exe errors regardless of what I was doing.
Installing the older 2.80.010 chipset driver I managed to have a more stable
system (actually this was the major instability cause). After setting my
memory back to 3-3-3 mode, explorer.exe errors just dissapeared. I have kept
the CL 12.90s and I don't have any problems in win2k (in 3 days time) , but
take into account that I do not use win2k for gaming. I never experienced
lockups in win2k with the 12.90s.
Win ME :
In WinMe I have a serious problem with Deus EX. After a couple of minutes of
playing I get a great lockup. (the other game I have installed, Collin
McRaye 2, runs just fine without any problems). The lockup in Deus EX began
to occur after the CL 12.90 driver installation. So the winme drivers may
have some serious problems.
When I was using the official 12.41 nvidia reference drivers I had some
explorer.exe errors in Win2k. These do not happen with the CL 12.90s.
I would say that you check what changes you have made to your system the
last week and you may find some other causes for your problems. I do not
exclude the 12.90s off course, they may be the guilty ones.
