Make sure you have the latest software update for Microsoft Joysticks.
The version you need is ver. 3.02 at:
http://www.microsoft.com/products/hardware/sidewinder/profiler/default.htm .
Also make sure you have the sblw9xup.exe update and LiveWare3.0 installed
from our website:
http://www.creativehelp.com/files/download.asp?OS=Win98&prod=sblive These
updates will usually get the joystick connected. If they do not, try the
steps below.
Try going to the Control Panel > Joystick/Game Controllers > and installing
the joystick as a 2-button 2-axis controller and then rebooting.
If the difficulty still exists, then on some models of cards the resource
settings for the gameport can be changed by doing the following steps:
1. Go to the Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Sound, video and
game controllers.
2. There should only be one device listed for the Gameport, and it could
be either:
Creative Gameport Joystick
or
Gameport Joystick
If any extra devices are listed, then please remove all of them and
click the Refresh button so that only the gameport on the sound card will
be reinstalled.
3. Double click on the Gameport Joystick device.
4. Go to the resources tab.
5. Uncheck the Use automatic settings box.
6. Change the Setting based on Basic configuration to 0001, if this
options exists.
7. Highlight the Input/Output Range and click on the Change Setting
button.
8. You may now be able to change the I/O range for the card.
9. After making the changes, click on the OK button at the bottom.
10. Say YES to the Windows prompt about making a forced configuration of
your settings.
11. Reboot your computer if prompted.
