There's nothing inherently wrong with setting it to a Legacy device, it just normally shouldn't be neccessary. I assume then that you have installed any motherboard/BIOS patches from ASUS? Also if you go to the VIA website you can download the current selection of neccessary drivers for their chipset. This is important if you haven't already done so because they include IRQ routing and an AGP driver. http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/index.htm > As for the boot up process, Windows does not give me an > option to "cancel" this process. It will lock up without any way to > disable. This is very odd, especially if there are no drivers installed to begin with. I've got the same card and the same OS and always get the option to cancel a new driver installation. It smacks of a hardware conflict. This sort of thing shouldn't happen if you've locked the card's IRQ manually, unless there is something else already using that IRQ which is incompatible with the SBLive!. Windows =will= move IRQs around as it boots.... it may be changing the settings of one of your other devices and creating a conflict. Have you tried this: Remove all cards from their expansion slots except the video card and the SBLive and only then install LiveWare 3.0? If that works you can re-install the other cards one at a time until either the lockup problem re-appears or you are up and running. > My only option is to boot into safe mode and disable the SB Live Value > card there. Just disable it or remove whatever drivers were installed completely? Using half-measures here will have you going around in circles endlessly. You have to remove the drivers at both locations in Device Manager plus you have to uninstall the Soundblaster Live! entry in "Add/Remove Programs" to make sure you get a clean install. > On the Athlonmb.com website there are any references to > problems with video and sound cards with possibly a problem within a VIA > chip. > I'm hoping someone has discovered the "fix" for this. There is a known issue between SBLive! and your ASUS MB. From the ASUS FAQ. Q12. Are there compatibility issue between A7V and SB Live Value Audio Card? Why can't I install the driver properly? A : The problem can get rid off by using the latest Creative Audio Card driver in the following URL. http://www.creativehelp.com/files/download.asp That really should do it, provided you've got the current BIOS update installed. Of course, it may not work if you try to install LiveWare 3.0 over an existing corrupt installation from your cdrom. You'd have to clean off any installed drivers first. Cheers, Ralf
