Okay, I've driven myself sufficiently crazy trying to solve this myself.

I have recently built out a Gigabyte GA-7ZX Series motherboard using VIA's
KT133 chipset with the AMD Athlon 850MHz Tbird.  This board comes with the
SB CT5880 (PCI128) onboard, which I've disabled via a jumper because I have
also installed the Soundblaster Live! Value card.  The operating system is
WindowsME and I've verified that all drivers are current for all the devices
installed.

This all works fine together until I try to use my MS Sidewinder 3d Pro
joystick.  It shows up as "Not Connected" in the ControlPanel.GamingOptions
tool.

I've seemingly tried everything at this point to correct this but to no
avail.  Has anyone else experienced this problem and been able to get around
it?  (by the way, I still get the same problem when I remove the SB Live
card and connect the joystick to the onboard gameport of the PCI128)
