This looks like the key to the problem. Do you have an SB32 or an AWE32, they are different (SB32 comes with no onboard ram for instance). On the awe32 you need to change a jumper to make it recognize external ram, which at the same time disables the on board ram. If I remember correctly this jumper is very near the ram slots. If this jumper is set correctly, it sounds like a hardware problem in recognizing the ram, I remember it being hard to get the ram in correctly, the slots were a little too big, so I sorta had to jam it in, I've seen many cases where ram is not recognized because it's not quite perfectly seated (mostly computers, not sound cards, but same principle applies). Try reseating the ram chips a few times and checking the available ram. If not you may have a defective ram slot. This doesn't sound like a software problem to me... In the "Available Synth" box (under the >"synth" tab), it is blank but I have a choice of choosing "general midi" >yet when I do choose it, I then get another message that reads: "The >selected file contains unrecognized format". I've got several sbk files >and it will recognize none of them. Baloney! It worked fine (albeit >only once) on the very same sbk file that it now says is >unrecognizable!
