                Melbourne University Baseball Club

Melbourne University Baseball Club, established in 1926, runs five open
teams in the Victorian Winter Baseball League, and one women's team in
the Victorian Baseball Association.

M.U.B.C. teams play in Winter A Grade, A Reserve, A Thirds, and A Fourths.
Our ``Dad's Army'' side - mostly consisting of players who have been with
the club for between ten and fifty years - plays in Winter C Grade.
M.U.B.C. in 1996 will also be fielding, for the first time, a team in the
Victorian Baseball Association Women's Winter league.

M.U.B.C. welcomes men and women interested in learning and playing baseball.
Regardless of experience, whether you've never played before or you've been
playing since you were knee-high to a grasshopper, come on down and play.

We're particularly interested in anyone with a 90mph fastball,
or sub three-second skulling ability, or who enjoys running around
and having a good time - in other words, we're interested in *you*!

This year, for the first time, the club will be running a women's team.
There's already strong interest from girls who have played with the club
previously, or who have given the VBA Summer Women's competition a try,
and we're particularly keen to get as many new people down to join in.
No baseball experience is needed; if you can throw a ball and pick up a bat,
come down and learn how to play!

Membership in M.U.B.C. is open to all current and past students, current staff,
and graduates of other tertiary institutions (i.e. anyone who meets the
M.U. Sports Union eligibility criteria).

M.U.B.C. is a strong club both on and off the field. The club is fortunate
enough to have good training facilities, both at the University, and at its
home ground of Ross Straw Field in Royal Park, augmented by top-level
coaching from one of the state's leading baseball coaches.

On the field, teams regularly contest and win finals, including winning
A grade pennants in previous years.
M.U.B.C. also sends a team annually to contest in intervarsity competition
at the Australian University Games, winning consistently.
(Both the baseball and the boat races!)

Socially, the club is strong, with regular functions and activities
throughout the year. This year, we'll be celebrating our 70th anniversary
with a big mid-year function, along with lots of other events!

Training is bi-weekly. During the season, training is on Wednesday evenings
from 5:00pm to 8:00pm (in two sessions) on the Main Oval, and on Sundays
9:30am to 12:00 midday at Ross Straw Field in Royal Park.
Until the season starts in April, training is on Wednesdays (as above), and
Saturdays 9:30am to 12:00 midday at Royal Park. We'll be holding the usual
`oldies/youngies' game and BBQ the last Saturday session before the season.

Fees are quite reasonable, projected at app. $60 for 1996, plus Sports Union
membership of $115 for non-students (which also entitles members to full use
of the University facilities including weight room, pool, squash courts, tennis
courts, and so on).

If interested, call Heather Dixon before 5 p.m. weekdays only on 9379 6601,
or send email to msf@kbs.citri.edu.au.

[Apologies if this is has already been seen - it appeared to not
escape cs.mu.oz.au the first time it was posted.]
