I was reading up on 386bsd in comp.unix.bsd when I came across several
warning messages that is very important even before you try booting
from the 386bsd floppy which I think everyone better know about before
trying it. In fact, I'm just going to grab the warning straight from
the FAQ posting....
______________________________________________________________________

WARNING WARNING WARNING
=======================

Do not even test-boot 386BSD from floppy with a hard disk present on
the system if you do not want to risk trashing your hard disk!

If 386BSD crashes, it will write a core dump on your hard disk!
______________________________________________________________________

And to summarize the thread from comp.unix.bsd on this topic....
If you just want to try 386bsd for curiosity sake, do it on a
machine with no harddrive. Otherwise, if you are working with a
machine with a harddrive, that drive better be the drive you are
will to devote 386bsd to. Don't try it on your DOS machine
because when it crashes and does a core dump on your harddrive,
it won't be dumping it in "DOS format" hence good bye to your
DOS drive. And you can't simply go into your CMOS setup and
disable the diskdrive either. There is a discussion about this
in the newsgroup if you're interested but it won't be disabled.
So if you must, you'll have to physically disconnect your hard
drive.

This piece of info is quite important I say, before even
considering trying 386bsd out.

Thomas.
