So many of Sandro's friends have inquired about him that I hope you'll forgive use of the dept mailing list, but it seems more efficient to let you know his status via this conduit: Sandro Fouche has been at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore since Monday, August 25th. On Wednesday, August 27th it was determined that he needed open heart surgery. Today, his surgery began at 8 am. He just got out of surgery and still can't have visitors. For those who are curious he needed a total of six bypasses. The doctors said that the surgery went well, and expect him to make a quick recovery. In the next 24 hours, he will be very carefully monitored in the cardiac ICU. He will be on a ventilator for most of that time. After he leaves the ICU he will be in the cardiac unit until he is ready to go home. Hopefully he will not be in the hospital more than a week.
