Hello, Several people were wondering what my "secret project" was over the last 3 years that was keeping me so busy (beyond "regular work", that is!), especially this past spring and early summer, and that somehow involved filming some faculty in our department. Well here it is---for a limited time only---my ACL Presidential Address from June. (I'm still in the process of getting the full, higher-quality version onto the ACL Video Archive site.) PART I: http://www.youtube.com/v/k4cyBuIsdy4 [00:08:43] PART II: http://www.youtube.com/v/CUSxWsj7y0w [00:07:03] PART III: http://www.youtube.com/v/Nz_sSvXBdfk [00:09:18] PART IV: http://www.youtube.com/v/41mCeSMlTXs [00:07:17] You'll need a half hour or so to see the whole thing. Hold out for the family interviews (especially my grandmother, who apparently became the star of the show!!) and, of course, the rap song toward the end. :-) Bill Gasarch and Amitabh Varshney deserve a special thanks as well! Also, here is an FAQ that I'm starting to create. If you think of other questions, let me know. http://www.umiacs.umd.edu/~bonnie/ACL/FAQ-2008.html Enjoy. Bonnie
