       MONDAY AFTERNOON CLUB SEMINAR

	 Date:	February 2, 1998
	 Time: 4:00-5:00 p.m.
	Place:	100 USC

      Speaker:	Charles Anderson
		Department of Computer Science
		Colorado State University

	Refreshments: following the talk

       SEMI-AUTOMATED TRACING AND VISUALIZATION
                  OF MEDICAL IMAGES

The construction of 3D models of human tissue from
MRI and other scans still requires manually tracing
the boundaries of the tissue slice by slice. Stew
Crawford-Hines and I are developing a method based on
neural networks to model the tracing decisions made
by people. The model is then used to automatically
continue the traces started by people, cutting down
on the number of pixels the people must trace. This
work is in collaboration with Visible Productions, a
local company, and is funded by a CASI grant.

This talk will also demonstrate the use of the depart-
ment's three Hewlett-Packard Omnibook laptop computers
for classroom and conference use. The demonstration
will include a PowerPoint presentation from Windows
95, running our training demo in MATLAB from Linux,
and running applications remotely as an X-terminal.
We will also be demonstrating the latest, lightweight
(7 lb.) projector from InFocus.
