Registration for Spring 2001 is getting near.

SMART FORMS:

SMART forms will be ready to be picked up in the CS Dept. Offices THURS
12 October. Unless you are a *freshman or new student*, you do not need an
appointment to pick up this form. Just ask the receptionist for
your SMART form in the Main Office in 211 USC.

You are encouraged to also sign your Curriculum Choice form while
you are in the office to pick up your SMART form. Please note
that there *will* be a hold placed on your registration if
you don't sign the form by the end of November (unless you
are a new freshman or graduating senior and do not therefore
need to make a Choice).

(BTW: Your class depends upon how many hours you have AFTER
THIS semester: less than 30 = freshman, 30-59= sophomore, 60-89 junior,
90 or more = senior.)

Again: Continuing Students with more than 30 hours after this semester
are NOT required to see me to get their SMART form, and can
pick it up at the Reception Desk in the Main Office.

Spring 2001 CLASS SCHEDULES will be AVAILABLE at the Records Office with a
student ID, or at the Information Desk of the Lory Student Center on
MONDAY 16 October (it will be available on the web on 9 Oct.).

WHEN YOU CAN REGISTER:

Phone REGISTRATION will BEGIN 23 October, but if you are a FRESHMAN or
SOPHOMORE, you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REGISTER UNTIL AFTER 4 November
so THERE IS NO HURRY to pick up SMART forms too soon
(you might just lose it), The PAC numbers don't change, but the
forms have your first available registration time and any registration
Hold information on them.

2nd BS and honors students are eligible to use the phone registration
system starting on Monday 23 October; as for the other class levels, you can
access the registration system to sign up for Spring classes roughly
as follows:

Graduates/2nd BS/Honors: 23 October
Seniors: Begin 24 October
Juniors: Begin 28 October
Sophomores: Begin 4 November
Freshman: Begin 11 November
New students: 18 November

EMAIL ADVISING:

I will do email advising starting immediately. To get email advising,
send me your CURRENT SCHEDULE, and, if you'd like, a list of
courses you're thinking about taking in Spring.

I will also do degree audits for
any student with more than 60 hours (after this semester) who hasn't
had an audit in the last 6 months. I will also do them for
*any* students who are graduating in Spring 2001, upon request.

All new students and freshman (<30 hrs after this semester) in
their first or second semesters
will have to get an *advising code* from the department in order to
register. I will give advising codes only after I am sure you
know what to take in Spring.

I am willing to supply advising codes early to students who use
email advising. Remember, this applies to New students and
FRESHMAN ONLY (in their first or second semester). But keep
in mind that FRESHMEN will NOT BE ABLE TO REGISTER UNTIL AFTER 11
November.

Students wishing to make appointments to see me about their schedules
(or anything else, for that matter) should call 491-5792. Please
use the following schedule so I can control the pace of
appointments. Anyone who wants to see me will be able to
do so by their first registration opportunity, so
there is nothing to lose by waiting (except your SMART form).

APPOINTMENT SCHEDULE:

I will make appointments for 2nd BS, seniors and honors students
starting Weds. 18 October.

I will accept advising appointments for 2nd BS, seniors, and juniors
starting 23 October.

I will make appointments for sophomores starting Monday 30 October.

I will make appointments for freshman starting 6 October.

If you have any questions, feel free to send email or call me directly:
