On the day of Friday, May 22, 1998 a Packard Bell Legend 950 with a
486dx2-50 and 4MB of RAM suddenly died. There had been no indication this
would happen. Yesterday, it was still happily calculating fractals, but
today the machine couldn't reply to greetings anymore.

The human half of the relationship has written a short In Memoriam to his
beloved 486:

I suggest we all enact a period of silence for 1/18.2 of a second to
remember all of the great computers that without any complaints, did exactly
as we said (not always doing what we wanted it to do though), calculating
the most beautiful and deep fractals; and their predecessors and succesors
alike.
