Look into manufacturer refurbs. They can be pretty good deals! There
are some on the Toshiba website somewhere. (Toshiba.com -- go figure)

I think that Xircom sells a combo card, though I could be mistaken. Here,
we use a combo of a Type II modem (Xircom X-Jacks, in my nearest laptop) and
a Type II ethernet card (Lynksys Combo16). Most laptops have 2 Type II
slots, which can be used as one Type 3, if I understand it correctly. Most
cards out there are type II. Usually only PC-Card hard drives are Type 3.
This fills out the slots, and is all we ever need...

Be wary of going too far under your expectations for a laptop - upgrades
can be painful! 2.5" hard drive, for instance, are rare and expensive.
Expect about $400 for a 2Gb drive. (Compare with $170 for a 7Gb 3.5"
drive at Best Buy!! Wow!) Also, memory is usually proprietary.
Finally, a big problem you may have with a used machine is the lack
of a battery. I have seen the batteries go for $200, easily.

Moral: Get what you want all in one box. YOu can't afford to buy pieces.
