How can you help bring Comedy Central to the coax in Fort Collins?
1) Send e-mail to tcicare@tci.com - it's TCI's customer service
address. You'll probably get a form letter back saying that the
request has been sent to the appropriate department.
2) Write a letter to the editor of the Coloradoan (sic) at
fortnews@aol.com. Sending e-mail to Scene (scene@verinet.com) might
also be effective.
3) Send e-mail to KPAW-FM (The Bear - 107.9) at info@kpaw.com, and
KCSU at buxx@holly.colostate.edu; encouraging them to start a "South
Park in Fort Collins" campaign. If KBCO can do it, so can KPAW and
KCSU. (Forget KTCL - although it's techncially a Fort Collins sation,
they cater to the Denver market. They might care if something
"extreme" like ESPN 2 was dropped, but they could care less about
Comedy Central, or Fort Collins for that matter.)
4) On your cable bill, write in big letters "We want Comedy
Central!" The faces of Kyle and Cartman are fairly easy to draw - you
might want to include them as well.
A letter should say more than "TCI sucks." You might want to address
the following :
* South Park is one of the most popular shows on TV now.
* The popularity of South Park merchandise, with the store wondows in
Old Town as evidence. You don't see much merchandise for the Odyssey
channel or the Home Shopping Network around, do you?
* All other TCI systems in the state will be carrying Comedy Central
ecept here in Fort Collins. (Even TCI in *Greeley* carries Comedy
Central!)
* Offer solutions to the "we don't have capacity" line - dropping an
unpopular channel (does anyone really watch Odyssey), piggybacking
Comedy Central onto another channel at night, and so on. If TCI could
find capacity for "Praise TV," the religious music video/home shopping
station in Longmont (they were forced to carry it because of FCC
"must-carry" regulations for area broadcast stations), they can find
space for Comedy Central. Piggybacking and channel dropping are being
used to make way for CC in the rest of the state.
* Supply and demand - if TCI can't supply want the customers want, a
market economy will dictate that consumers will go somewhere else to
find the product. DBS dishes are _cheap_ - most apartment dwellers
can't have them, but for homeowners ...
As Cartman would say ... kickass!
Dan

Also, I recently went to the source, by emailing Comedy Central. You can go to their homepage at http://comcentral.com/ and there they have a link where you can contact them. Maybe if we could get CC wise to our plea, they might come and help us out!? Just a thought. I read in the paper that Grand Junction, CO had their MTV pulled from their basic cable, and the college students their organized a campaign to get it back, and MTV came with cameras and media. Needless to say they got there MTV back!

A while back I was living in trailer park off Horsetooth and Taft Hill, and the cable provider there (I think they were called Rocky Mountain Cablecomm or something like that) carried Comedy Central. Is service from this company available in the central parts of Fort Collins?

And another alternative....
A person at the City says there is a Telecommunications Board that meets
on the second Tuesday of each month, and supposedly, the regional manager
of TCI usually attends these meetings. It was suggested to me that one
or more people attend one of these meetings and air their complaints.

Convince the city to buy out the cable system and run it privately. If they want some employees, I'll help! -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Michael J.
