Fort Collins @Home cable modem w/ Linux?

I just got my cable modem on Wednesday morning, and WOW, it is fast!
But, I can only get it to work on my Windows machines -- and I want to
connect it to my Linux gateway/masquerading machine.

@Home gave me a static IP, the DNS numbers, a "gateway," etc. I can set
the modem up in Windows in a minute, but the Linux machine refuses to
work with it (won't even ping the outside world).

This should be a very simple set-up, with the static IP and all, but
after 7 hours of screwing with it, I finally need to ask for help.
Hopefully, there is someone out there in Fort Collins who has gotten
Linux working with their cable modem and can clue me into the secrets.

I'm using Mandrake/RedHat 6.1 (but have also tried SuSE 6.2 just to make
sure it wasn't a broken distro problem) and I have entered all of the
IP/network info EXACTLY as it is on my Winbloze machines. I've even
disabled all but one of the NIC's to simulate the Windows set-up.

The interesting thing is that when I enter the "gateway" number that
@Home gave me (and is entered in Windows), and type "route" to list the
routing table, it hangs on the "default" route like it is trying to
reach the gateway (24.10.139.1) before printing the entry. I'm guessing
that this is related to my problem, but that's just a guess (and I
obviously am guessing wrong about something!!!)

I've had a Linux gateway working just fine with my internal
(192.168.1.x) network and a dial-up PPP, so I kinda know what I'm doing,
but I can't even get a 1 to 1 connection straight from the Linux box to
the Net...

Please, please, if anyone knows what the problem is, send me an e-mail.
You can reply to this address (deja) or to micsaund@t-three.com
(preferrable).

Thanks!
Mike
