Ok, so I upgraded libjpeg from version 6.0.1-96 to 62 (6.0.2?) to get mozilla to work correctly, but it's managed to break virtually all the graphics utilities. For example, with both kview and xv, when I try to load a jpeg, it gives me the error: libjpeg version 62 found, expected 61 or something to that effect. My question is what is expecting version 61? Both kview and xv refence this because they both give the same error. I've tried to compile kview with static libraries, but to no avail. I'm at a loss here, I don't know what else to try. I've reinstalled 6.0.1 and everything is back to normal, but mozilla is screwed again. Not a big deal, just one of those things that piss me off because I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance. That ought to help you a little. Secondly, if a library conforms to the whole major-minor-patchlevel thing, these problems shouldn't occur. Or at least, you could install both versions, and the programs would all work the way they wanted, whatever way they wanted. However, some people just don't do it... Grrr. <sigh> As a wonderful example, I have libjpeg.so.6.0.1 in the kde libs, and libjpeg.so.62.0.0 in /usr/lib. Oh, someone needs to die for that... Well, if nothing else, they /do/ have separate so numbers, so you should have no problems running them both... Oh, did you run "ldconfig" after you installed the new library? Options: Recompile kview and xv to use the newer libraries. Yeah, it is work, but you may win. BTW, xv stands on its own, but kview may possibly be a derivative of ImageMagick -- in which case, you'd have to update the imlib. Fun, eh? Again, ldd will help. Use shell-script wrappers to fill the LD_PRELOAD environment variable with the correct libjpg library before calling the bins. Its ugly, but it works. Your final option: Install Windows2000 and IE5. Haw haw... I kill myself... :) -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Michael J. Well, it looks like I have some work ahead of me, but I'll try it and let you know what happens. I do have another question, but I'll put that in a new message. Thanks, Bryan
