This might be trivial but I'm using Mandrake Linux and trying to operate
a DeskJet 820 Cse printer. My boss installed Mandrake and I don't think
he changed the printer type. We are not too familiar with Linux, but I
tried using printtool and tried to change the printcap file in the
etc/. Where do I go from here? Is the DeskJet 820 supported by Linux?
Any help would be appreciated.

I have no experience with it, but I believe that the 820 is to real
printers what a winmodem is to a real modem. That is, most of the
brains is in the driver. But don't quote me on this. :)

I think that people are having more luck with this one that the modem
one, though. I believe you can get ghostscript to output the right
format.

All this doesn't help you, I'm sure... :) Try looking at the Printing
HOWTO (search for that) -- or just do a search for the "deskjet 820 linux"
and see what comes up.
