Using mount from user account

I'm running Suse 6.3 and I have several devices marked as user mount in fstab; my floppy drive, zip drive, and cdrom. However, whenever I try to mount these devices as anything other than root I get a message saying that only root may use mount. All the docs seem to suggest that this is not the case, and that I should be able to mount those things appropriate marked in fstab. How can I fix this so that I can mount floppy/zip/cdroms without being root? Jason Denton

well, you can do it the sloppy way and set the suid bit on /bin/mount
(aka chmod +s) or you can go the elegant way and use autofs, a kernel
module that you use with automount package.
as far as config files, here's my /etc/auto.master:
#mountpoint map options
/misc /etc/auto.misc --timeout 3
and here's my /etc/auto.misc
cdrom -fstype=iso9660,ro :/dev/cdrom
cdrom-efs -fstype=efs,ro :/dev/cdrom
you probably won't need the efs one tho - i use that to automount my
IRIX cds.
with this setup i mount my iso cds by just accessing anything under
/misc/cdrom.
you can add a floppy to the config by just adding this to auto.misc:
floppy -fstype=auto :/dev/fd0
