filtering std input

Hi,

To cut a long story short, I want to be able pass the standard input to a
command through a filter. The filter will detect a certain key sequence
and pass another key sequence to the command. The command is telnet, and
you must be able to hold a interactive session with the telnet command,
but your keystrokes must be passed through this filter.

The sort of thing I have been playing around with is redirecting stdin from
a tty device though the filter and passing it to the command. Either I have
the whole idea wrong, or my syntax is iffy. I guess it is both.

Would anyone know how you can pass your stdin, from your tty device,
though a (essentially see through) filter to a command (such as telnet),
holding an interactive session with that command.

Any suggestions help will be welcome.

Thanks in Advance,

Jase.
