CAM driver

I am confused about the status of a CAM SCSI driver that I need to read data
from a tape using a DECstation 5000 (ultrix v. 4.3a). A seismic processing
software package that I am using says in order to read a tape with blocks
larger than 65k, this "long-block driver" is necessary (indeed something is
needed). The documentation states there is a free tape provided by DEC separate
from the OS tape (I have the 4.3a CD), but the folks at DEC state that it is
part of the OS disk. I don't see any info on how to get this to work. One
gentleman from DEC stated I needed a software license to run this, but another
said one is not needed. You can order a part for CAM drivers for OSF1, but
nothing exists (at DEC Direct) for the ultrix based machines. Also, the folks
at the seismic processing shop claim they have this separate tape. Is this for
an older version??

The question is: can anyone provide me with some sound advice as to how
CAM drivers work, specifically how to inistall the long block driver? Do I just
need to add a line to the kernel file or do I need more? It appears that there
is now no way to get any separate tape, if indeed there is one. I am becoming
tired of being chased in circles. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
