Thanks to the following folks for droping me a line with advice and suggestions: Dr. Alan Rollow Mick Kappler Don Summers To answer to my first question about mounting cd's or hard disks formerly under digital unix, type of cd matters even though my cdrom is a Toshiba SCSI-2 12x Ultrix did not want to boot off of it. Seems one needs a "for real" DEC cdrom. My reasoning ignoring this (cdrom not booting os cd has been posted before) was that my Digital Unix cd (4.0B) would boot just fine. I was told it works due to a work around in Digital Unix. When mounting my filesystems that were previously under digital unix, I think I ran into the two gigabyte file size limit per partition in Ultrix (I have the drives oddly jumpered on the scsi chain). I did not get to check out my other disk as it was set to rz6 which is the tape drive under my version of Ultrix. I never found out if pushing tz* down to hard drive 7 (I think, unforutnetly I can't look at the kernel conf now) is a wise thing to do or not (my fault for calling it tp* in my orig email), well considering I don't have a tape drive and do not plan on ever having one on this particular machine I figure it would be safe. I don't think there was an fs incompatibilty problem between these disks and Ultrix (All of them are plain UFS not AdvFS) thought it is quite possible there are some slight differences between the two fses. And finally it seems it is safe to set phsysmem higher than the hardware limit (Personal DECstation 5000/20 so ram stops at 40). Thanks. - Parris Wood pwood@wilma.widomaker.com. pawood@vt.edu.
