Computing and Network Services (CNS) is taking applications for
student computing advisors to assist users with UNIX, IBM compatible and
Macintosh compatible machines. Successful candidates will demonstrate good
customer service and communication skills; the motivation to learn in a
constantly changing computing environment; and have a solid base of technical
knowledge of the computing environments supported by CNS. Additional
training will be provided.

Brief overview of the Advising program: Advisors assist the users
of CNS computing resources by responding to telephone, electronic mail and
in-person requests for help. The CNS user community consists of undergraduate
and graduate students, researchers, faculty, and staff from all departments
on the CU Boulder campus. We have regular desk hours at the Norlin Macintosh
lab, the Engineering Center (NAC), and the Computer Center. Advisor trainees
are scheduled to work with more advanced advisors. Trainees begin at $7.00
per hour and after successful completion of the initial training period of
one semester, the advisor pay increases to $7.75 an hour. The dynamic nature
of the computing environments demand an ongoing commitment to training by all
advisors.

Expectations for a student advisor: We are looking for students who
desire to complement their classroom education with some practical experience.
Advising requires a self-motivated individual who can take advantage of the
available resources to research and broaden their own interests and share
their knowledge with others. Because of the significant investment made in
training and the demanding nature of the position, we ask that all applicants
be at least sophomores and able to make a three semester commitment to the
program.

Please pick up an application from the advisors in ECCR 225. You
can turn in applications to the advisors or to Susan Parker in Duane Physics
room C119. If you have any questions please e-mail me at
Susan.Parker@colorado.edu.
