To the Faculty and Staff at the University of Colorado at Boulder,

My name is Joanna Tisdale, and I am writing on behalf of the
University of Colorado Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter. Habitat
for Humanity is a non-profit organization that builds low-income
housing for hard-working impoverished families. This past July, the
Boulder Valley Habitat for Humanity Affiliate donated a plot of land in
Nederland to our chapter. With the support of the Boulder Valley
Affiliate, our campus chapter plans to fund and build a house there by
October of 1996. Although the affiliate is very supportive, our chapter
has taken the responsibility to organize the different resources at CU to
ultimately fund and build the house on our own.
The benefits of such a project are innumrerable. In addition to
providing a deserving family a home, this worthy project will include a
large number of university students, which will prove to the community
that Generation X is willing and able to accomplish ambitious goals.
Also, this unique service experience offers over 35,000 people the
opportunity to interact with low income, impoversihed families. Such an
experience helps bridge the gap between today's socio-economic barriers.
Not only will this project provide an opportunity to bond with the
community, but such a project would certainly unify the faculty, staff, and
students at CU.
Although the actual building of the house will not begin until
the Spring of 1996, and then be completed in the Fall of 1996, we need to
start planning now. We would like to get as many of the faculty and
staff involved as possible. The largest commitment that we are looking
for is the position of a construction manager. However, we have a strong
need for aid in the areas of fund raising, recruiting volunteers, actual
building of the house, moral support, or even just buying a plant from our
plant sale. If you would be at all interested in supporting our project,
or would just like more information, please contact either Jonathan
Birdsong (Home-447-9628 or birdsonj@ucsu.colorado.edu) or me in the
Habitat office (UMC 301) at 492-4792. Thank you so much for your time.

					Sincerely,

					Joanna M. Tisdale
