Dear NAGPS Friends & Colleagues;

With less than 90 hours remaining until individual tax returns are due,
we wanted to remind you about the tax information that has been collected
for students (particularly graduate students) on the NAGPS web site. If
you visit www.nagps.org and select "Hot Topics" and then "Taxes" you'll
find the information there. Links to expert sources of information, as
well as some NAGPS-written student spins on tax information are
available. New tax deductions and exemptions related to education make
this year's tax returns more complicated for students.

While you're on our web site, please be sure to visit our "What's New"
section. This morning, courtesy of the Chronicle of Higher Education,
we'd like to invite you to participate in a debate about the role of the
university with regard to the PhD and post-graduate employment.
Univeristy of Florida President John V. Lombardi has written an opinion
piece that says that universities shouldn't become employment agencies
and that, particularly, reduced enrollments because of poor employment
outlooks in the future are not appropriate for universities. Graduate
student input on this issue would be great. Again, visit www.nagps.org -
select "What's New" and then link to the Chronicle Colloquy dated April 12.

While you're on "What's New," feel free to browse the dozens of articles
and announcements there that we've collected for graduate students. We
update that page each week several times.

Have a great week, and get a large tax refund!

Kevin Boyer
NAGPS Executive Director
