I agree with your basic point -- that Amendment 2, if upheld, is not the ultimate disaster, as bad as it is -- but I think it's worth pointing out that "severely limiting" is probably a somewhat strong word. Gay and lesbian civil rights legislation exists in a lot of the U.S. For starters, you've got the entire state of California, much of New England, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and lots of counties and cities all over the country. Just taking California and New York City, you've got a very significant chunk of the U.S. population covered. I'd be really curious to know what the actual percentage of the U.S. population that lives in protected areas is. To be sure, deciding that you must live in one of those places limits your options. But you still have choices like the mega-cities of New York and Los Angeles, smaller cities like Boston and San Francisco, suburbs like northern New Jersey and central Massachusetts and Connecticut, small towns from rural California to Wisconsin and New England, and so on. Don't a few of the Canadian provinces have anti-discrimination laws? ================================================== John Whiteside | South End, Boston, Massachusetts johnw@shore.net | http://www.shore.net/~johnw/ ==================================================
