Since if the SC upholds it (very likely at this point given other recent SC decisions) there will be 10-12 of these things passed in the next couple of years (since the Radical Reich will now have a SC-approved boilerplate to copy), and should all learn from your experience. So, please share with us the details surrounding this organized opposition! > so why should I have to suffer? Well, we're all suffering. Because CO dropped the ball in 1992 by being PAINFULLY passive about the issue, other states are under the threat of having the same thing happen in their state too. So instead of one battle, now we have god knows how many more. Most analysts of the situation agree that had CO:2 been voted down, most of the steam for legalizing anti-gay discrimination at the state level would've gone away. Now, instead they may have a success story that occurs in what most people see as a relatively liberal state. The more conservative states will be a cakewalk. > Its just as prejudiced to say "All > Coloradoans are bigot assholes" as it is to say "All gay people are > hairdressers and sissies." It's even more bigoted to say "You're fired because you're gay, and the state says there's nothing you can do about it." It's even more bigoted to say "I found out you're a fag, so here's this eviction notice." It's even more bigoted to say "Because CO:2 was upheld by the SC, we're circulating this petition to put similar legislation in our state on next year's ballot." The damage was done at the ballot box --- the people who voted FOR CO:2 are responsible for the current situation. The people who are reacting to that decision are using the only tool they have to discourage other states from following suit. I'm sorry that it makes things difficult for the GBLO* community in Colorado. I'm more sorry that Colorado gambled on a strategy with a very important situation that had ramifications outside of Colorado and lost. Big time. > How about concentrating boycotts againsts companies that actually > discriminate against gay people by not hiring them, not the whole state. The whole state, should CO:2 be upheld, will no longer recognize non-discrimination policies. In effect, every company will have license to discriminate (except of course against heterosexuals - read the fine print). The state itself will be *compelled* to discriminate, of course, since it will have to take the anti-GBLO position to uphold the non-viability of claims of discrimination on the basis of (non-heterosexual) orientation. Furthermore, companies also have a voice. Can you provide a list of companies in Colorado who have donated $$$ to overturn CO:2? Who have donated resources to groups trying to overturn CO:2? Who have explicitly underscored that they won't discriminate? Who have been moved by this whole affair to put in DP benefits, etc. as a statement that CO:2 is an evil thing? I'd be more than happy to make exceptions in my own personal boycott for companies like that. Just send me copies of the *press releases* to that effect, and I'll make sure that more people know about their brave action. > > You might as well say, "I am a vegan, so I will boycott any state with a > McDonalds in it". Good luck.. It's CO that needs the luck. Isn't 3+ years of whining about the repercussions of inactivity on the part of your own people at a crucial time long enough to have picked yourselves up and started doing something about the *real* enemy here? It's not like people out of CO wouldn't be happy to help out on specific plans formulated by people there. Well, that is, plans that don't consist of "Well, let's just pretend the whole thing didn't happen!" as the sole strategy... Are you aware of any? If so, please share them.
