If two individuals infected with HIV (or any other virus) wanted to 
marry, the state would have no way of knowing about it, or preventing it. I

Gessner's wife) obtained a marriage licence in Colorado about two and a 
half weeks ago.  In order to do so, my husband and I had to

A. Pay $20.

B. Raise our right hands and swear we weren't related to each other, or 
married to anyone else.

There was no blood test, or any mention of STDs of any kind.

After pronouncing us husband and wife, our minister said: "May you be 
truly united as one, spiritually, emotionally and physically.  All 
recognize and bless your commitment."

Isn't this ultimately what marriage is about?  By refusing to recognize 
same-sex marriage, the state is passing a moral judgement on what kind of 
unions merit blessing and recognition.

Why should this kind of commitment, in the eyes of the state, be a 
privelege exclusive to heterosexual couples?

The proposed ban on same-sex marriage is simple bigotry.  I have e-mailed 
Roy Romer urging him to veto the bill.  Perhaps Mike Mills will post that 
address again, so more people will do the same?

Hatred and bigotry only pave roads to disaster.  Let's all stand against 
this discriminatory measure.
