As I recall, Mike Mills (mills@spot.Colorado.EDU) wrote: ->The anti-gay marriage bill, HB1291, passed the Senate State, Veterans and ->Military Affairs Committee yesterday on a party line vote and is expected to ->go to the full Senate either tomorrow or Thursday. If all of the Democrats ->hold firm, we need two Republicans to cross party lines. If all the Dems ->don't hold firm....well, you can do the math. Great, Colorado. Another Ammendment 2. Let's waste another great deal of taxpayer money in a move the Supreme Court will rule is unconstitutional anyway. Why stop here? If we can decide not to honor marriages from other states on the basis of sexual preference, let's start doing it on other criteria: race, national origin, height, weight, innie/outtie, skiiing ability. Heck, let's just nullify ALL marriages not performed right here in good old knee-jerk religious fundy-state of Colorado. Perhaps we can make it like long-haul trucking and make you have apportionment papers for more than one state. We can honor marriages performed in Virginia but not Oregon. I hope your spouse-to-be has family in this state or a lot of money, because you'll have to have a wedding in BOTH places. Otherwise when you visit the in-laws you'll be in clear violation of the marriage code, probably a class 1 misdemeanor. But, hey, look on the bright side: Bigamists unite! You can marry that special someone over in Minnesota AND your favorite Floridian and never be charged with bigamy! If your marriage from Tennessee isn't valid in Maine, then you aren't REALLY cheating on your partner, are you? And divorce? Whoah, imagine having to go through legal battles not just ONCE, but in every state! -DanD -- # Dan D (kd4igw) dand@rmii.com dand@frottage.com # If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We # might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason. -DEEP THOUGHTS
