Imagine modifying the Ethernet driver source to add a new feature, and activate it just by typing C-M-a. When you make mistakes you usually get popped into the debugger, fix the bug, type C-M-a and try again. Hacking IP in Unix is certainly a challenge - change anything, rebuild the kernel, reboot (or recompile the module, unload (after stopping anything that uses it if you manage), reload (and start up everything that wants to use it)). If you made a mistake, you get a kernel panic or worse and have to reboot :-( Seriously, doing experimental implementations of networking protocols would be the number one reason for me to get a LispM again. Have fun (I bet you will), -- Simon. (-: who still has an SNMP agent for Genera lying around - but no LispM )-:
