What would be gained from writing the emulator in Java? Portability?
Not from what I've heard from some Java programmers. To me, the C
emulator would be portable enough.

Nothing I want is written in Java. And just because the emulator was
written in Java doesn't necessarily mean you could access arbitrary
Java from Lisp. You'd have to implement some sort of FFI or a JVM in
Lisp. If you're doing that, then what the emulator is written in
probably doesn't matter a whole lot.

Why not use CL instead of Java, if you were going to try and
recreate Genera?
